Founding Meeting of the China-Japan Short Poem Association Held in Dalian

  Josai University Educational Corporation, in cooperation with the universities of Dalian, founded the China-Japan Short Poem Association on May 15th of this year. The goal of the new organization is to deepen knowledge of both countries’ respective cultures through the composition, appreciation, translation of literature and research activities in the short poem form of China and Japan while promoting cultural exchange.


  At the founding meeting of the association held at Dalian University of Foreign Languages on May 21st, Chancellor Noriko Mizuta delivered an address on the occasion of this founding that included an explanation of the association’s aims and her wishes that it can develop into another form of cultural exchange between China and Japan. The master of ceremonies for this program was Professor Du Fenggang, Director of the Department of Japanese Language Studies at Dalian University of Technology.


  Also participating in the haiku composition session held to commemorate the founding was Professor Chen Yan, a representative Chinese scholar of modern Japanese literature and the former Director of Dalian University of Foreign Languages. Additionally on hand were faculty members from Dalian University of Foreign Languages, graduate students, students, and members of the JIU Haiku Association, who had received instruction from Seiko Mizuta, School Corporation Honored Chief Director of Josai University. Under the guidance of Mr. Takashi Murai, acting as an advisor, the participants composed a large number of haiku with the theme of “acacia.” Everyone in attendance had a good time.
