Participation in the University Top Management Conference as a Speaker

On December 2, 2006, a "University Top Management Conference" was held with the Japan Management Association (JMA) as the main organizer.

Before this conference, the leaders of the most successful universities were selected as managers of the conference in charge of the contents of discussion etc. and to take the initiative in the preparations. Mr. Tadao Kiyonari, Academic Advisor to Hosei University, Chancellor Noriko Mizuta, as well as several other leaders were asked to become the managers and they immediately started to work on the operation of the conference.


Together with Mr. Hachiro Kawamoto, President of Ritsumeikan University, and Mr. Fujiro Sendo, President of Yamagata University, Chancellor Noriko Mizuta was a speaker in part I "Responsibilities and Authorities of University Corporations – the Role of the Board of Administration", "The Leadership of University CEOs". With Mr. Hiromichi Yoshitake of Tsukuba University as the coordinator, she identified the role of the Board of Administration as the top management of universities, which are facing harsh times, and talked about how it should be in the future, presenting examples from each university.

In the discussion, the top management of about 40 universities that had come together from all over Japan engaged in an in-depth exchange of opinion on the basis of the concrete examples presented, and the atmosphere at the venue was filled with the intention to exchange as much wisdom as possible to live through a time with fewer children.

The theme of part II was "Corporate Management and Professorate Management", "Reforms in Education and Learning – Limited-term Employment of Teaching Staff, Evaluation of Teaching Staff", and the theme of part III was "University Governance – Securing the Autonomy of Education and Learning and the Independence of Management." The conference was very long, but since every theme was of extreme importance, an intense exchange of opinion continued to the last minute.
