Honorary doctoral degree awarded to Dr. Zoltán Südy

An honorary doctoral degree award ceremony was held in conjunction with the Josai University doctoral degree commemorative award ceremony and commencement ceremony on Monday, March 22nd, 2010, where Chancellor Mizuta handed the honorary doctoral degree certificate to Dr. Zoltán Südy, former Hungarian ambassador plenipotentiary to Japan.

Dr. Sudy joined the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1975 and worked in the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary in Japan from 1976 to 1980. Between 1992 and 1995, he served as Hungarian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Thailand and Ambassador to Brunei and to Laos.

He was Hungarian Ambassador to Japan between September 1995 and August 1999 and worked hard for friendly exchanges between Japan and Hungary. After retirement, Dr. Südy became a member of the Japan-Hungary Cooperation Forum and taught Hungarian studies, including the history and economy of Eastern Europe to students as a visiting professor at Josai University.

Dr. Sudy received “the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” in the spring of 2009 for his achievements.

Moreover, as for his contributions to Josai University, he helped establish the Hungarian Cultural Center and realize the visit by Mr. SÓLYOM László, President of the Republic of Hungary, to this university, and supported the signing of agreements with Budapest Business School and Szent István University. His achievements stated above have been highly evaluated, which led to the awarding of an honorary doctoral degree this time.

Dr. Südy was pleased with the award, saying, “I am honored to receive the honorary doctoral degree and will work hard to be deserving of this honor.”
