Celebrating Wellness Exchange Day Tree-Planting, Performance of Cherry Blossom Festival Theme Song, Exchange with Hungarian Students

On October 16, JIU’s Faculty of Tourism campus celebrated its 5th anniversary with Wellness Exchange Day.

A group of exchange students from China, Taiwan, and Korea planted three acacia trees to commemorate the arrival of Hungarian exchange students to Josai and JIU. The theme song for the always-lively Cherry Blossom Festival was also revealed during Wellness Exchange Day.

This year’s entry is a song composed by folk duo LOFT, two students at JIU. Hungarian exchange students were also seen singing along with the performance.

In welcoming the Hungarian exchange students to the Awa campus, Kósa Bálint, Director of the Hungary Board of Tourism gave a special address on “Hungarian History and Tourist Attractions.” In front of the 120 spectators gathered, Director Kósa provided an overview of Hungarian history, expounding upon the nation’s European and Asian cultural roots.

Later, two Hungarian exchange student representatives, Timár Sándor of Josai’s Faculty of Contemporary Policy Studies and Pápa Arexandra Rózsa of JIU’s Faculty of Tourism were appointed as members of the Josai-Hungary Student Friendship Society to act as liaisons between Hungary and Japan. The event provided numerous opportunities to become familiar with Hungarian culture through ethnic dance performance, an exhibition of native products, and kiosks selling Hungarian cuisine.

As befitting a department that hosts many exchange students, the Faculty of Tourism also held a Japanese speech contest for exchange students as well as speech contests in Hungarian, Chinese, Spanish, and Korean for Japanese students to display their linguistic prowess. Other events included presentation of student projects, band performances, an exhibition commemorating Seaworld Kamogawa’s 40th anniversary, free dental check-ups courtesy of Kameda Clinic, and many others in which members of the local community also participated.
