On April 19, 2017, Josai University Educational Corporation announced the establishment of an Independent Investigation Committee. Two lawyers and two certified public accountants, none of whom were in situations of conflict-of-interest with the Corporation, were appointed to serve on the Committee. The Committee was established in order to investigate the appropriateness of spending practices by the Corporation during the term of former Chancellor Noriko Mizuta.
The Corporation received the Committee’s first report on September 4, 2017. In it the Committee concluded that under the previous Chancellor, the Corporation had failed to apply proper procedures with regard to the disbursement of Corporation funds and that it had continuously engaged in inappropriate spending practices. On September 8, 2017, at the meeting of its Board of Trustees, the Corporation, acting on the findings of the Committee, removed former Chancellor Noriko Mizuta from the position of Trustee. The Board has elected Mr. Akira Uehara as Chancellor of Josai University Educational Corporation, effective September 11, 2017.
Responding to the findings of the Committee, Josai University Educational Corporation is determined to make every effort under the leadership of Chancellor Uehara to restore the trust of the public in the Corporation.
The Corporation wishes to take this opportunity to express sincere and heartfelt apologies to all its stakeholders including students, parents, faculty members, alumni, and others for any concern or inconvenience that might have been caused by past practices. The Corporation wishes to thank all those who have stood by it during this period for their ongoing support.
