Josai Institute for Central European Studies Hosts the 5th Central Europe+Japan Student Conference

Josai Institute for Central European Studies hosted the fifth Central Europe/Japan Student Conference with support from Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, on Josai University Educational Corporation’s Tokyo Kioicho Campus on February 21, 2019. The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, who kindly lent monetary support to this conference, is a non-profit foundation. They endeavor to develop public policy through education, studies and international cooperation.

The main theme of this conference was “Coexisting with Foreigners in an Era of Mass Migration; opportunities and challenges for Europe and Japan.” which is a common topic for both Japan and other countries in the present era. In the conference, students from seven of our partner institutions in Europe including Lithuania, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, and students of Josai and Josai International University expressed their own views and discussed each subject proposed for the following panels:

Panel 1: “Developing a migration policy”;
Panel 2: “Learn how to appreciate each other”;
Panel 3: “Economics without losers”

Before the start of the conference, Mr. Juraj Petruska, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of Slovakia in Tokyo, spoke that immigration and refugees are very important topics, and it is important to find applicable solutions to various problems we are facing nowadays.

After opening speeches, students from University of Szeged (Hungary), Masaryk University (the Czech Republic), Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia), University of Cologne (Germany) and Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), University of Lodz (Poland), University of Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and our students, including those of our partner universities in Central Europe currently spending time at Josai on various programs, each delivered their own opinions.
