Description : This class will provide an introduction to Miguel de Cervantes'
Don Quixote (1605, 1615), which is widely regarded as the first modern
novel. The work has influenced countless writers, and it affected the development
of the novel in Europe and America. The Quixotehas also inspired works
of art, dance, and music. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the publication
of Part I of Don Quixote. In class, we will study the most famous episodes
of the work, looking at its major themes and seeking to understand why the
Quixoteis still relevant today. The course will be conducted in English.
