The
course introduces theories of international relations and examines the evolution
of the international system in the modern era. The course starts with a brief
over view of the necessary conceptual tools. It then discusses the international
system by examining the elements of the State, its growth and its dissolution.
Finally, the course discusses war and peace.
Special emphas is will be placed on the search for security - military, political, economic, and ecological - in world politics. The main focus of the course will be to understand the contemporary global system by looking at the intersection between politics and economics.
