GUIDELINES
The purpose of the U.S.-Japan Women's Journal is to exchange scholarship on women and gender between the U.S., Japan, and other countries; to enlarge the base of information available in Japan on the status of American women as well as women in other countries; to disseminate information on Japanese women to the U.S.; and to stimulate comparative study of women's issues. The editors of USJWJ welcome contributions consistent with its purpose.
- The manuscript should be written in a style accessible to general readers. The readers of USJWJ comprise general readers as well as scholars in various fields. Papers using advanced statistical methods are not preferred.
- Manuscripts can be written in English or Japanese. Papers written in Japanese will be translated into English.
- Frequent use of headings is preferred to structure the paper and make it easy to follow (see past issues of the Journal).
- Materials under consideration elsewhere will not be accepted.
- Submit a computer file of your manuscript and three hard copies to Dr. Sally A. Hastings, History Department, University Hall, 672 Oval Drive, Purdue University, W. Lafayette, IN 47907-2087, USA (sahnolte@purdue.edu).
- The manuscript should be double-spaced and no more than 35 pages long (including references and notes). Notes should be kept to a minimum and should appear as endnotes at the end of (and separate from) the text; the notes section can be preceded by a list of references if needed.
- Please use carats (^) to indicate macrons (long marks) over letters in romanized Japanese words.
- For general guidelines on appropriate style and format, see Kate L. Turabian's A Manual for Writers or The Chicago Manual of Style. For the USJWJ Style Sheet, please email your request to Dr. Hastings (sahnolte@purdue.edu) or look at (http://www.josai.jp/jicpas/usjwj/).
