Tuesday, October 23, 2007 witnessed a special screening at the Tokyo Kioicho Campus of “My Dream” a film directed by Wang Hong-hai, Dean of the Department of Aesthetics at Beijing Film Academy. The work was entered in this year’s Cannes Film Festival as well as the 20th Tokyo International Film Festival. Special high-resolution facilities at the Tokyo campus were used to present the film’s beautiful images and sounds on a large screen at the first screening in Japan of this 110-minute movie-theater version.. Also appearing in the film were 84 members of the China Handicapped Performers’ Troupe who staged colorful dance performances while also singing and playing instruments with a documentary touch that captivated the audience. The film fascinated Josai University students and the general public, thanks to its refined acting and superb camerawork.

In the question-and-answer session that followed, the audience heard an account of how, during a one-year period, director Wang Hong-hai and his production staff lived together with the members of the China Handicapped Performers’ Troupe, recording the daily lives of those performers and their practice sessions, and the amazing efforts the handicapped performers made to train their bodies. They also heard many accounts about the process of making the film. the passion with which the director of theatrical design and many other staff devoted themselves to creation of costumes and scenic art and their professionalism in filmmaking impressed the audience.

The Media Department of Josai International University will team up with Beijing Film Academy in introducing outstanding films from China to audiences in Japan.
