On April second, the 2009 Commencement Ceremony was held at the sports culture center at the Togane campus in Chiba. Sun Yu Hua, President of Dalian University of Foreign Languages, received an honorary doctorate degree for her endeavors in international education such as in the promotion of cooperative education programs and making academic exchange agreements with this university.

After the ceremony, the new students received their student identification cards in the class rooms, and began a new campus life. In addition to being encouraged to join club activities and celebrated by their fellow classmates, the new students were shown a display of local products, given a Japanese drum performance by the Raku Drum Troop based in nearby Shirako Town, and warmly welcomed by the local people.
